Zara White suspects there's a freaky guy semi-stalking her. She's also obsessed with phobias. And it's true; she hasn't exactly been herself since her stepfather died. But exiling her to shivery Maine to live with her grandmother? That seems a bit extreme. The move is supposed to help her stay sane...but Zara's pretty sure her mom just can't deal with her right now.
She couldn't be more wrong. Turns out the semi-stalker is not a figment of Zara's overactive imagination. In fact, he's still following her, leaving behind an eerie trail of gold dust. There's something not right - not human - in this sleepy Maine town, and all signs point to Zara.
In this creepy, compelling breakout novel, Carrie Jones delivers romance, suspense, and a creature you never thought you'd have to fear.
Carrie Jones’ Need series intrigued me when I first heard about it. A story about pixie? I had never really read one before. Based on the back of the book, I wasn’t sure what to expect. I didn’t think it would be a masterpiece. And I was right.
First of all, the characters are not that bad. Zara can be kind of annoying sometimes, and Bella-ish, but still, I liked her. Nick looked like the perfect fictional crush, but the hero complex started annoying me at some point.
The plot is interesting, even if they’re a sense of déjà-vu to it. The love triangle with Zara, Nick, and Ian, the “I would die to protect you” kind of personality… Still, the book ended up captivating me. I couldn’t really put it down for too long. I really wanted to know what would happen.
The writing may not be fabulous, the story maybe not extremely original (except for the pixie aspect), but I still enjoyed it.
If I had to rate it, it would get a 6/10
